Bad news for anyone that may have been thinking about ordering a Kindle Fire this morning, as Amazon has announced that the 7-inch tablet is officially sold out. In a press release that just hit the wire, Amazon says that the Fire is the best-selling product on its site since launch, adding that it's managed to capture 22 percent of U.S. tablet sales since its debut last year. The slate has now been given "sold out" status, although it is still available from various other sellers on Amazon's site.
So what's next for Amazon? The company isn't talking specifics, saying only that it's got "an exciting roadmap ahead." We do know that Amazon is contributing to Crazy September with an event on September 6, and although there's been no official word on what the firm has on tap for the gathering, a Fire follow-up certainly seems like a possibility. For now, though, it looks like anyone hoping to snag a tablet from Amazon will either have to go with one of those aforementioned third-party sellers or find something to keep them busy until Amazon's shindig. The company's press release announcing today's news is available below to help with the latter.
