With a jury decision made this week things are certainly going to heat up between Apple lovers and Samsung supporters. And with a continuing buzz around the Apple iPhone 5 launch happening in September, we may actually see some movement in the Official Smartphone Rankings charts. As the upcoming iPhone 5's launch approaches, the current iPhones shouldn't be considered as a purchase as much as they would perhaps just a week or so back. The 6th generation Apple handset is the most hotly anticipated phone of all time if recent surveys are anything to go by. So, if you really want an iOS-powered smartphone, a few more weeks waiting isn't going to do you any harm. The One X is a great device, and in my mind, so much better than the SIII. Build and display quality are obviously a step ahead of Samsung's flagship, and the camera is almost as good as the iPhone. WP7 needs to be on the list, and no other Microsoft mobile device matches the build quality and performance of Nokia's biggest device.

I've finally switched around positions today and offered the top spot to the Galaxy Nexus. Now that I've finally gotten my hands on one running Jelly Bean, it's almost a no brainer to pick up unlocked for $349. Given that Google will continue to support it for some time with the latest in Android updates, it's a superb deal for the Android die-hard. If you want to save a little or just want the latest in Android hardware, the Galaxy S III takes the number 2 spot, though it certainly makes an argument to continue its reign at number one. Powerful, beautiful, gorgeous are all words we can use to describe the Galaxy S III hardware. It's a beautiful piece of manufacturing and Samsung has a lot to be proud of. The iPhone 4S takes the number 3 spot, perhaps for one of the final times as the anticipated iPhone 5 successor looms into September. The HTC One X and One S round out the top 5, both with an argument to be made as Android powerhouses, especially the One X. As I expressed last week, the One X may be the only hardware currently available in the US that could truly distract someone from the Galaxy S III. If Sense 4 meets your fancy, there is no argument, the One X is a terrific device and the One S does a fantastic job of walking in its shadow.

Once again, my top four choices stay the same. The HTC One X is still my #1 choice for its gorgeous unibody design, beautiful HD display and a quick Snapdragon S4 chipset. The Samsung Galaxy S III is arguably the better choice on paper, but its chassis and the HD Super AMOLED display put it behind the One X. In third is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (global) due to it being the first phone officially running the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. Next is the Apple iPhone 4S with its awesome camera, consistent battery life and a plethora of applications. And last is the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX with its gargantuan battery stuffed in a relatively trim package.
