Take note, AT&T customers, because it appears that your carrier is no longer offering contract pricing on its cellular-enabled tablets. An internal memo leaked to Engadget claims that AT&T has stopped offering two-year contract pricing on tablets, leaving no commitment pricing as the only option when it comes to buying a tablet. Looking at AT&T's website today shows only "No Commitment" pricing for all of the slates, and The Verge confirmed with a couple of AT&T reps that tablets are indeed only available at unsubsidized rates. The contract-free data plans for tablets include a 250MB option for $14.99, 3GB for $30 and 5GB for $50, and customers that sign up for AT&T's upcoming Mobile Share plans can add a tablet for $10 per month.
AT&T's decision makes it the second of the big four U.S. carriers to stop offering slates with two-year contracts, following Verizon's move to drop tablet subsidies in early July. There's no word on exactly why AT&T has opted to only sell tablets with no commitment pricing, but I'm betting that there are a few folks out there that are glad to see it happen, regardless of AT&T's reasoning.
