Android users have long been wishing for gift cards that could be used toward apps and other goodies in the Google Play store, and it looks like they may soon finally get their wish. A report from Android Police has revealed that a new version of the Google Play store app contains support for redeeming gift cards, and although the feature isn't active just yet, users have been able to work with the .apk file and produce screenshots to show what the redemption process looks like. Also said to be coming to Google Play is support for wish lists, which would allow users to add apps and other content that they're interested in to a list for later purchasing.
Just in case the above images aren't enough evidence of the impending arrival of Google Play gift cards, Android Central has gotten hold of some images of the physical cards in the wild. The shots show cards in both $10 and $25 denominations, and they feature the Google Play logo and list "Music, Movies, Books, Apps & More" as examples of what content users can buy with their gift card. While it's certainly taken Google a long time to introduce gift cards for the Play store, I'm betting that many Android users will just be happy that they're finally almost here. There's no word yet on precisely when we can expect to actually begin using Google Play gift cards, but with discovery of the redeem function in the Google Play app and now the appearance of the physical cards, it feels like the official launch can't be too far off.
