I've confirmed with my calendar that today is indeed July 26, and that means that that Sprint Galaxy Nexus update that we learned about last night has begun rolling out. Heading over to Sprint's official forums shows that the update is now nice and official. However, it appears that that a tweak not mentioned in yesterday's leak has made its way into the FG01 update. According to Android Central, the update disables universal search, just like what we saw recently happen to Sprint's Galaxy S III. There's also a new item listed on Sprint's official changelog for the update, which is a "Google Security Fix." Here's the full IMM76K.L700FG01 changelog from Sprint:
It's also worth noting that the Galaxy S III on Sprint has also begun receiving an update. This one started rolling out yesterday and bumps the Galaxy S III up to software version L710VPLG4. Included are security fixes, Music Hub support, enhancements to Smart Stay and the Voice recognition algorithm and a few other goodies. The GSIII's changelog is as follows:
Shortly after the Galaxy Nexus first got hit with an injunction in early July, Google and Samsung said they were planning an update to work around the search patent that got the handset banned in the first place. We haven't heard much about the update since, but it looks like the decision to push out the new software has finally been made. Even though Sprint Galaxy Nexus owners that really want local search can get it back by loading an older .apk, it's still kind of a bummer to see the feature silently yanked. As for the Galaxy S III, it's always nice to see some new update love being pushed to a device, especially when there are a healthy amount of enhancements involved.
