When Google first introduced us to the Nexus 7 at I/O, the company said that the Android 4.1 tablet would begin shipping in mid-July. It looks like El Goog has met its goal, as it's been discovered that calling Google's customer support line will yield a message that says that Nexus 7 pre-orders have begun shipping. The message explains that the first wave of pre-orders are going out today and that all pre-orders are expected to ship in the next three business days. The full message, courtesy of Android Police, is as follows:
"We're now shipping Nexus 7 pre-orders. The first wave of orders are going out today and all pre-orders are scheduled to ship within the next 3 business days. Once your order has shipped you will receive a confirmation email and tracking number. Though our agents are unable to provide a specific delivery date for individual pre-orders, please rest assured that our shipping team is working to fulfill all orders as quickly as possible."
Additionally, it appears that GameStop has begun handing out the Nexus 7 to customers that've pre-ordered the device. A GameStop rep speaking to The Verge said that Nexus 7 pre-orders are being distributed today. However, he added that each store is only receiving enough stock to fill pre-orders, with a second shipment purportedly due in August. If you'd like a Nexus 7 and have yet to order one, Google Play is still accepting pre-orders. The Nexus 7 page on the Play store lists the slate as shipping in one to two weeks, but it's not clear if that estimate has yet to be updated or if it's still accurate. We'll pass along more details on the situation as we get 'em. How many of you Nexus 7 GameStop pre-order customers already have your slate in-hand? And as for you Google Play-goers, how many of you have received shipping confirmations?
