The Nokia N9 has never been released through any carriers here in the U.S., but for anyone that was undeterred by that fact and decided to picked one up anyway, it looks like Nokia has a mid-week surprise for you. The company has revealed that a new software update has begun rolling out to the N9 that bumps the handset up to version 40.2012.21-3 (PR1.3). Weighing in at a whopping 203MB, the PR1.3 update contains "over 1000 quality improvements," including enhancements to Mail, Facebook and Twitter. Several network and connectivity tweaks are also included.
So when can your N9 get a taste of PR1.3? Nokia says that N9-toting MeeGo fans can expect the update to roll out over the air in waves during the next few weeks, hitting unbranded devices first and other versions later on. N9 users will receive a notification of the update in their Events view which can be used to install the new software. The N9 and MeeGo may not be Nokia's main focus these days, but it's nice to see the company continue to show the handset and its users some love with new software improvements.
