It's long been rumored that Jelly Bean will be the next major version of Android, and now it looks like the Google Play store may have just confirmed it. When purchasing a Samsung Galaxy Nexus through the Play Store's new Devices area, customers are greeted with the screen you see above, which gives a rundown on pricing and offers a brief description of the Galaxy Nexus. The page describes the Galaxy Nexus as "The latest smartphone from Google, soon the first phone with Android 4.1 Jell...", seemingly confirming both the codename of the next version of Android and that it'll be version 4.1. It also says that the Galaxy Nexus will be the first phone with Android 4.1.
Later on in the process, users are shown a thumbnail of the Galaxy Nexus with a different home screen than we're used to seeing. The device in the image features a new look for the Google search bar as well as a new wallpaper. The (somewhat blurry) image is available below.
The Jelly Bean name has been floating around since September 2011, but so far Google hasn't actually revealed the codename for the version of Android that'll follow version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. With Google I/O set to kick off on June 27, it seems possible that the company plans to unveil Jelly Bean at the event and that this Play Store listing just went up a tad early. There's still a lot we don't know about Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and what changes it'll bring, but hey, at least now we've got this leaked name and thumbnail image to keep us occupied until next week.
