Looks like Samsung is giving AT&T Galaxy S II owners a nice little midweek surprise. The Android 4.0 update for AT&T's Galaxy S II is now available for download, though it's worth noting that owners will have to plug the device into their computers and install the upgrade using Samsung's Kies software. There's no changelog or anything like that for the update just yet, so it's not yet known exactly what kinds of goodies the update brings with it.
Earlier this year, both AT&T and Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S II would be bumped up to Ice Cream Sandwich, and since then many owners of the AT&T GSII have been waiting on the edge of their seats for the new software to be released. Now it looks like those folks can slide back into a comfortable seated position. And while we're still waiting to find out what tweaks and enhancements Samsung packed into this update, at least Galaxy S II owners know that they'll finally be able to access Android 4.0-only apps, like the Chrome Beta browser. UPDATE: While some users have reported that they were able to download the update using Kies, most folks are being told by Samsung's software that their firmware is up to date. It's not yet clear what happened (the update may have been posted prematurely and then pulled), but it's worth noting that AT&T has updated the Galaxy S II's support page with details on the Ice Cream Sandwich update. We'll update you with more on this situation as we get it.
