Last month, Motorola refreshed its Android 4.0 update timeline to show that the DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX would be bumped up to Ice Cream Sandwich in the second quarter of this year. Despite the fact that we're around 15 days away from the end of Q2, there's no set date for the start of the RAZR's ICS rollout. However, Verizon has begun alerting owners that their device will soon be updated. The carrier is sending out text messages to users to say that the RAZR "will soon be upgraded to Android 4.0" and that, when the update does come, the Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app will be removed because it's incompatible with ICS. The full text reads as follows:

"Free Verizon Message: Your phone will soon be upgraded to Android 4.0. At that time we will remove your Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app because it is not supported in Android 4.0. Please download a new instant messaging app to use IM on your phone. Thank you for using Mobile IM!"

While the message doesn't shed much light on exactly when Android 4.0 for the RAZR and RAZR MAXX will begin rolling out, I'm sure that users are happy to get some sort of update on the situation from Verizon. Motorola's update schedule still shows that the ICS push for both devices will begin in Q2 2012, so perhaps this instance is one in which "soon" really does mean soon. Stay tuned, RAZR folk!
