Microsoft has scheduled a press event for next Monday, and while the company hasn't shed any light as to exactly what the gathering is all about, it does say that it'll be making a "major" announcement. As is usually the case, though, rumors about what Microsoft has up its sleeve have begun circulating days before the event. According to sources speaking to The Wrap, a Microsoft-made tablet is set to be introduced on Monday. The tablet is rumored to be running Windows RT, which is the version of Windows 8 meant to run on devices with ARM processors. AllThingsD reports that its sources have also heard that Microsoft may be prepping its own tablet for the Monday event.
We've already seen Windows RT tablets introduced by the likes of Acer and ASUS, and there are likely several more companies with similar devices in the works. Still, it seems that Microsoft feels that it must design and create its own tablet, possibly to help fight against the iPad, says AllThingsD's tipsters. It'll definitely be interesting to see what kind of tablet Microsoft is capable of cranking out and what kind of product it thinks can take on other popular tablets. And considering that there are already a number of other firms working on Windows RT slates, we'll have to see how those companies react to Microsoft pushing out its own tablet.
