The Huawei-made T-Mobile Prism has already been the star of a couple of leaks, and tonight the handset is back in the news once again. Our amigos at TmoNews have gotten hold of a few different T-Mobile documents that not only reveal the Prism's spec details, but its launch date information as well. As far as specs go, T-Mobile describes the Prism as "a basic smartphone designed for first-time smartphone owners," and it isn't kidding. The handset features a 3.5-inch 480x320 touchscreen, 3.2-megapixel camera, 512MB ROM, 2GB microSD card, 7.2Mbps HSDPA support and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. We're also told to expect a 600MHz processor under the hood as well as a 1,400mAh battery powering the whole show.
As you can see below, the Prism is set to hit Best Buy on May 6th, followed by a Walmart launch on May 9th and a debut in all other sales channels on May 23rd. No pricing details are mentioned in the leaked docs.
After we first got a peek at the Prism thanks to a press image leak back at the beginning of March, we suspected that it would end up being an entry-level device similar to the Ascend II that's already available on U.S. Cellular and Cricket. Now it looks like our suspicions have been confirmed thanks to this latest batch of leaked documents. Of course, there's nothing wrong with a lower-end device like the Prism, as it could very well serve as a nice first smartphone for someone looking to finally make the leap from a feature phone. Now that we've got all of the spec details of the Prism, we just need T-Mobile to make the thing official so that we can get pricing information too. If the device is indeed coming early next month, it shouldn't be much longer before the magenta beans are spilled.
