Best Buy first introduced us to its Connect mobile broadband service back in July 2010, offering both 3G and 4G connectivity to customers along with devices like USB sticks, hotspots and connected laptops. Less than two years after its debut, Best Buy has decided to give Connect the axe. The company confirmed the decision today to All Things D, explaining that it feels it can "achieve greater growth and customer satisfaction by delivering mobile broadband support in ways other than an exclusive Best Buy branded service." The service will be shutting down on June 1st.

So what's going to happen to the customers already signed up for Best Buy Connect? The around 11,000 Connect subscribers will have their early termination fee waived, according to a memo leaked to Engadget, and will also receive a $125 or $150 gift card. Additionally, customers who signed up for the 4G WiMAX service will be given the opportunity to switch to Clear's service. While it's probably kind of a bummer for Connect customers to have their service shut down, at least they'll be receiving gift cards for their troubles.
