Yesterday a video surfaced that showed a Microsoft developer evangelist claiming that all existing Windows Phones would be upgraded to the "next major version of Windows Phone," but now a new report claims that that may not be accurate. According to a source speaking to The Verge, there will be no Windows Phone 8 Apollo upgrade for existing devices. In a response to the original story about all devices receiving a WP8 update, Microsoft said that "all apps in our Marketplace today will run on the next version of Windows Phone" but that it had no news concerning future releases beyond that.
Right now there's still no official word on whether or not current Windows Phones will be bumped up to Windows Phone 8 Apollo when it arrives, which is rumored to be coming later this year. It'll definitely be a disappointment for existing fans of the platform if zero WP7 devices receive Apollo, especially considering the major support that the Lumia 900 has been getting from AT&T and Nokia lately. It's not yet clear when Microsoft will clear the situation up, but here's to hoping it's sooner rather than later. What do you all make of the situation?
