Apple and Samsung have been involved in a patent battle that kicked off nearly a year ago when Apple accused Samsung of copying its products. It's been a while since we've heard anything from the case, but big news has surfaced today as Apple and Samsung have agreed to take part in talks to discuss a possible settlement. Judge Lucy Koh handed down an order explaining that the two sides will meet with a magistrate and that there is a 90-day deadline for the talks to take place. Both Apple CEO Tim Cook and Samsung CEO Choi Gee-sung will participate in the meeting, as will general counsels from the two companies.
The tiff between Apple and Samsung has spanned several countries and included a number of patents, but Apple's suit and Samsung's countersuit from last year are the cases that kicked the whole thing off. Of course, it's worth noting that just because the two sides have agreed to settlement talks doesn't guarantee that a resolution will be reached. It's still encouraging to hear that the meetings will be taking place, though. Here's to hoping that some progress can be made when the two executives begin their talks.
