Remember the Motorola DROID R2-D2, possibly the DROID-iest DROID of them all? The Star Wars-themed handset is due for an update, and today Verizon gave the rundown of the new software over on its DROID R2-D2 support page. It's a bug-fixer that's actually fairly large and will bump the DROID R2-D2 up to Android 2.3.4. The full changelog for the 4.5.622.A957.Verizon.en.US update is available for your perusal down below.
Pretty exciting news, right DROID R2-D2 owners? It may not be Android 4.0, but considering that the DROID R2-D2 didn't appear on Motorola's Ice Cream Sandwich update list, that's not really much of a surprise. (I'm not sure Astromech droids really care for frozen sandwich treats, anyway.) It is good to see Moto and Verizon prepping such a sizable update for the DROID R2-D2, though, and I'm sure owners of the device feel the same way. If you happen to own a DROID R2-D2 and would like to manually check for the 12MB update, you can do so by heading into Menu > Settings > About phone > System updates. Don't forget to give us a shout in the comments below once you've got it installed, ok DROID R2-D2 folk?
