Last week we heard that the Samsung Galaxy S II's Ice Cream Sandwich update was coming on March 10th, and although that claim was quickly shot down by Samsung, it looks like that date wasn't too far off. Samsung has announced both on its official @SamsungMobile Twitter account and on its Facebook page that the Android 4.0 for the Galaxy S II will begin rolling out today in both Korea and parts of Europe (like Poland, Hungary and Sweden), and will gradually make its way to other markets. The company added that ICS updates for the Galaxy Note, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 are also coming soon. Finally, owners of devices like the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab 7-inch will soon be seeing Android 2.3 Gingerbread firmware upgrades.
Just like last week's report, it's worth mentioning that no U.S. Galaxy S II variants are included in this initial rollout of Ice Cream Sandwich for the GSII. As far as the U.S. Galaxy S II ICS updates go, well, we've yet to really hear much from AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile on that front. Still, it's encouraging to see the international Galaxy S II begin receiving ICS as it means we're (hopefully) inching closer to Samsung's ICS GSII update being released Stateside.
