After detailing its plans to move to LTE in 2013, T-Mobile today revealed that in doing so, it'll also be skipping over 84Mbps HSPA+. T-Mobile had said in the past that it planned to make the move from 42Mbps HSPA+ coverage to 84Mbps, but today T-Mobile's own Andrew Shepard confirmed to The Verge that the carrier now plans to move from 42Mbps HSPA+ coverage, which it's still in the process of rolling out, straight to LTE. 

When T-Mobile detailed its LTE plans last month, it explained that it would need to repurpose some of its 1900MHz spectrum that's currently being used by 2G handsets. The carrier would need to do the same type of spectrum refarming if it were to roll out 84Mbps HSPA+ coverage instead, though, so it kind of makes sense to make the jump straight to LTE. Some may be disappointed that they won't be able to give T-Mobile 84Mbps HSPA+ a try, but we're just glad to hear that the folks at Magenta are preparing to join in on the LTE fun, even if we have still have a bit of a wait before the coverage actually goes live.
