AT&T said last year that all of its 2011 postpaid Android handsets would be updated to Gingerbread, and today we can cross another device off that list. Today LG announced on its official Facebook page that the Android 2.3 upgrade for the Phoenix is now available for download. LG's announcement doesn't mention any kind of over the air install option, instead directing users to the company's support page for the Phoenix. There owners of the Phoenix can find instructions on how to get Gingerbread onto their handset by hooking it up to their computer and using LG's Windows-only Mobile Support Tool.
It's definitely kind of a bummer that Phoenix folks need to go through the trouble of hooking their phone up to their PC to move up to Gingerbread rather than getting a simple OTA download. Considering that the Phoenix has been on Android 2.2 Froyo since its release back in April, though, I'd say that that little bit of extra work will probably be worth it. Own an LG Phoenix yourself? You'll find all of the instructions you need to get Gingerbread up and running on your phone right here. Happy updating!
