Sprint said last month that it planned to begin disabling the Carrier IQ software found on its devices, and now HTC has confirmed that it's working with Sprint to remove Carrier IQ from its devices. In a statement sent to The Verge, HTC explains that starting this month, it'll be cranking out maintenance updates for its Sprint-branded products that'll remove Carrier IQ's software as well as provide security enhancements and bug fixes. The full HTC statement is as follows:

"HTC can confirm that we're working with Sprint to provide maintenance releases that will remove Carrier IQ and provide security enhancements and bug fixes beginning in January."

The eradication of Carrier IQ on HTC-made Sprint devices has already begun, as it's been revealed that the small update that was made available to the EVO 3D last week wiped Carrier IQ's software from the handset. It's not yet clear when other products on Sprint's roster, including those not created by HTC, will be receiving their own Carrier IQ-removing updates (or, as The Verge points out, which network monitoring tools Sprint might implement in Carrier IQ's place), but it's still good to see Sprint following through on its word.
