The proposed name's not the only change under the hood at Sony's mobile division (currently known as Sony Ericsson); they're hard at work on a revamped product portfolio.

The Sony Xperia S was announced at the company's press conference on Monday at CES 2012, and while we'll likely never see it in the United States, the Xperia S is a uniquely designed smartphone that ventures away from the traditional "black slab" design.  Specs include a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 4.3-inch true HD (720p) display, a 12.1-megapixel camera with 1080p video recording capabilities, 1 GB of RAM, and Android 2.3 with Sony Ericsson's Timescape UI (though the release notes that it's ready for Ice Cream Sandwich).

I like the design; it's a nice change from what I saw through most of late 2011.  The antenna placement in the bottom of the device and the clear acrylic strip that's placed below the capacitive buttons really give it a stylish edge.  Check out the gallery below for a closer look!
