The Motorola DROID 4 has been in the running for the title of "Most Frequently Leaked Smartphone In Recent Memory" ever since it first showed up last October, but it looks like the phone's string of leaks will finally end today, as Verizon has made the 4G LTE slider official at long last. As expected, the DROID 4 packs a 4-inch qHD (960x540) touchscreen, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video capture, 16GB built-in storage, LTE connectivity, support for Motorola's Lapdock accessories, and a physical QWERTY keyboard. Expect the D4 to hit the market in the coming weeks for an undisclosed price. When it does launch, the new DROID will feature Android 2.3, but Verizon promises than an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is coming.
Verizon also took the wraps off of a new BlackBerry device today: the Curve 9370. Internals for this new member of the Curve family include a 2.44-inch display, 5-megapixel camera, 2GB microSD card, global capabilities thanks to quad-band GSM support, NFC, and the BlackBerry 7 OS. Additionally, the 9370 will eventually be bumped up to the new BlackBerry 7.1 OS. The Curve 9370 will be launching January 19th for $99.99 with a two-year contract and $50 mail-in rebate.
Lastly, the folks at Verizon announced a new pair of 4G LTE-capable Jetpack mobile hotspots. First is the Verizon Jetpack EuFi890, which is manufactured by ZTE. This model includes an OLED display to show signal strength, battery life, etc. It also includes support for quad-band GSM and HSPA and can handle up to 10 simultaneous connections. The second hotspot is made by Novatel and goes by the name Verizon Jetpack MiFi 4620L. The MiFi 4620L packs in an OLED display as well as a multi-LED status indicator, global support, and can connect with up to 10 devices simultaneously. Both Verizon Jetpacks will be available in the coming weeks.
It's good to finally see the Motorola DROID 4 made official after being teased by leak after leak, especially considering that customers in the market for a new QWERTY-packin' 4G LTE handset will now have another choice in addition to the Samsung Stratosphere. As for when we'll actually be able to buy the D4, the rumor mill is currently pointing toward an early February launch. We'll keep our ears to the ground for concrete release info from Verizon and Motorola and pass along the deets as we get them.
