If the BlackBerry Milan render that leaked out last month had you salivating, well, it sounds like you can now stop to grab a towel and dry yourself off. According to a report out of BGR, not only was the portrait-sliding Milan actually a BlackBerry 7 device, not a BlackBerry 10 model like had originally been rumored, but that the handset has now been canceled by RIM. The site's sources claim that the carriers weren't exactly excited about offering a device that was so similar to the already-available Torch 9810. The BlackBerry Colt has also allegedly been given the axe. That leaves the BlackBerry London as the only handset that RIM is actively trying to bring to the market, BGR says, and that the Waterloo firm is currently in the process of showing the London off to various operators. The London is said to look fairly similar to the version that leaked out back in November, although some small design changes have reportedly been made.
It's not all bad news for RIM fans today, though! A spokesperson for the Waterloo firm revealed to Pocket-lint that it will show off its new BlackBerry 10 operating system at Mobile World Congress in February. It's not known whether or not we'll actually see any BB10 devices at MWC, but the RIM did reaffirm that BB10 products won't actually be hitting the market until later in 2012.
This news, if accurate, is a bit of a bummer for all of the BlackBerry addicts out there, as it means that there are now fewer BlackBerry 10-powered handsets to look forward to. It's good to hear that the full-touch BlackBerry London is still kicking around somewhere inside RIM, although BlackBerry users that can't live without a physical keyboard (which I'm guessing there are more than a few of) may have to hope that one of the other rumored BB10 devices on this rumored list of code names springs into existence.
