Earlier this month saw the normally iPhone 4S-exclusive Siri tweaked to run smoothly on an iPhone 4, but there was one problem: when asked a question, Siri would give the user the silent treatment since it needs authentication from Apple's servers to work. That doesn't seem to be an issue any more, though, as developer Steven Troughton-Smith (responsible for the original Siri port) and hacker Chpwn have finally gotten Siri to speak on an iPhone 4 and an iPod touch. The pair used files from a jailbroken iPhone 4S to get Siri working on both devices, a process that Troughton-Smith explains only took about 10 minutes to get everything in place. So when might regular iPhone 4 users get a chance to have a conversation with Siri? That much is unclear, as Troughton-Smith says he couldn't be a part of the distribution of the hack since it utilizes files that aren't his to pass around. However, he has promised to share details on the process once an iPhone 4S jailbreak is made publicly available.
After watching Siri in action on an iPhone 4, it seems to work about just as well on the last-gen handset as it does on Apple's latest hardware. Whether or not that means that the Cupertino firm will ever officially bring Siri to the iPhone 4 remains to be seen, but it certainly looks like Apple could do it without much trouble.
