Bad news for all of the BlackBerry PlayBook owners out there: RIM has announced on its official blog that PlayBook OS 2.0 won't be released until February 2012. The company says that it came to this decision in order to help meet the expectations of its developers, enterprise customers, and end-users. In order to do that and to help get PlayBook OS 2.0 out the door in a timely manner, RIM explains that it'll be delaying its native PlayBook BlackBerry Messenger client for an OS release later down the road. Users will still be able to use BlackBerry Bridge to connect their smartphone to their PlayBook and access BBM on the tablet that way.
Today's news is definitely a bummer for all of the PlayBook owners out there, especially after RIM talked up the tablet's OS update at DevCon just last week. The bright spot here is that RIM has offered up a window of time in which is expects to release the update, so PBook owners at least have February to look forward to.
