Yesterday it was announced that Sprint would finally be joining AT&T and Verizon in offering the iPhone here in the U.S., and although the iPhone 4S will be the same physically on each of the three carriers, there will be one thing different about Sprint's model that should help it stand out: unlimited data. Sprint confirmed today that the iPhone 4S can be paired with the same unlimited data plan and 5GB hotspot add-on that all its other smartphones have access to.
Although some AT&T and Verizon customers will also have unlimited data on the iPhone 4S thanks to a grandfathered plan, new customers on both carriers will need to choose from a set of tiered data options. That means that Sprint will be the only U.S. carrier offering unlimited data alongside Apple's smartphone to new subscribers. Verizon did offer unlimited data to iPhone 4 users when it launched the device earlier this year but switched to tiered plans in July. It's not clear when or if Sprint will make a similar switch, but hey, it's good to see that the option is there for the time being.
