Is there a better way to start off the week than with a pair of new Android phone leaks? That's precisely what we've got this morning, as the folks at Pocketnow have posted up images of two new Verizon-bound Android handsets. First up is the Pantech Breakout, which saw its spec list leak out late last month. If you'd like a refresher, the Breakout's said to be packing a 4-inch 800x480 display, 1GHz processor, 5-megapixel camera, VGA front-facing shooter, 512MB RAM, LTE connectivity, and Android 2.3 with a custom Pantech UI. The Breakout was rumored to be launching on September 1st, but for reasons unknown that didn't end up happening. There's no word yet on when it may actually hit Verizon's shelves.
Moving on, we've got the Samsung Illusion. This device is still a bit of a mystery, as the only information we have on it comes from a leaked Verizon roadmap that listed it as have 3G support and Android 2.3. The Illusion is carrying the model number SCH-i110. That number, which is slotted right above the SCH-i100 Samsung Gem, suggests that this could be more of a low-end handset. According to the aforementioned roadmap, the Illusion is scheduled to launch on September 29th.
The Breakout and Illusion may not be packing super high-end specs that make phone nerds drool, but it's good to see Verizon continue to fill out its low-end and mid-range lineup. What will be interesting to see is how Verizon ends up pricing the Breakout when it launches. So far Verizon has launched all three of its 4G handsets at $249.99 or higher (the Revolution has since been discounted to $199.99), so will Big Red continue the trend with the Breakout? Or will Pantech's offering come in at around $199.99 since it's packing more modest specs than devices like the DROID Charge or DROID Bionic? All should be revealed soon, so stay tuned.
