Time for the first iPhone 5 rumor of September! Today we've got a new batch of images of what may be an iPhone 5 case, posted by Italian blog Macitynet. The case in these new photos seemingly matches up with the ones we saw back at the tail end of July — like having the mute switch and volume buttons on opposite sides — but there's one big difference between these images and the older sets: these photos compare the purported iPhone 5 case with an actual iPhone 4. This new case is clearly slimmer and taller than the iPhone 4 and also features a curved back that's more reminiscent of the iPod touch than of Apple's latest smartphone.
In one other quick iPhone-related note, the folks at MacRumors dug up an image in iOS 5 beta 7 titled "RegulatoryInfo-N94AP@2x~iphone.png" that's revealed that the N94 iPhone features an FCC ID of "BCG-E2430A." The N94 is rumored to be the mysterious iPhone 4S that many expect to be the cheaper compliment to the new iPhone 5. To compare, the GSM iPhone 4 features an FCC ID of "BCG-E2380A" and the CDMA iPhone 4's FCC ID is "BCG-E2422A."
As usual, it might be wise to take these iPhone 5 case shots with a grain or two of your favorite salt. Apple won't be making the dimensions of the new iPhone available until after they actually announce the device, so these case manufacturers are working off of information from their sources that may not end up even being accurate. Leaked cases do have a history of being spot-on, though, like we saw earlier this year with several iPad 2 case leaks. So is this indeed what the iPhone 5 will look like? It's still probably still a little too early to say for sure, but the evidence definitely is mounting.
