Good news for all of you Motorola DROID 2 owners out there: your update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread may finally be around the corner. The folks at Droid-Life are reporting that some DROID 2 owners began receiving invites this morning to participate in the soak test for the D2's Gingerbread update, meaning that those testers could begin seeing the new software in the next couple of days. When will regular folk like you and I get our mitts on the DROID 2's piping hot helping of Gingerbread? An exact date isn't known, but an official roll out could begin sometime in the next week or two.
The past couple of months have been kind of rough for DROID 2 owners with the arrival of the phone's successor and the rumor that the D2's Android 2.3 update had been delayed due to bugs. That's why it's good to hear that the device may soon join the Gingerbread ranks. There's no news yet on the DROID 2 Global's update to 2.3; originally Verizon said it was coming back in mid-June, then Moto corrected Big Red and said that it wasn't rolling out at that time and we haven't heard anything since. When we do hear more, both about the DROID 2 and DROID 2 Global's updates, you can be sure we'll let you know.
