Ready for another round of "Good News, Bad News," everyone? First up, the good news: LG has come forward with an official statement on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the G2x. The bad news? It's probably not what all of the G2x owners out there want to hear. Speaking on LG's official forums, a moderator has said that the "official word for the Gingerbread update on G2x is ‘by summer.'" The mod's full post is as follows:
“The official word for the Gingerbread update on G2x is ‘by summer’ and all of the internal discussions thus far have it launching very close to that timeframe. When we receive any updated information we will update this sticky post with it.”
This isn't really a new statement since T-Mobile said back in May that the G2x Gingerbread update was due by summer, but at least LG has finally come forward and updated us on the situation. It's worth mentioning that although many feel that "by summer" means "by the beginning of summer," LG seems to mean "by the end of summer." After all, we're already a month into the season. Whether or not the update is still "less than a month out" remains to be seen, but hey, at least it hasn't (yet) been pushed back into later in 2011, right?
