The lawsuits between Apple and Android manufacturers like HTC and Samsung have been the source of a lot of debate and scrutiny as of late, and many have been wondering when Google would step in and help its Android compatriots. Google hasn't entered the fray just yet, but executive chairman Eric Schmidt did have a few things to say about the suits at his company's Mobile Revolution conference in Tokyo. "We have seen an explosion of Android devices entering the market and, because of our successes, competitors are responding with lawsuits as they cannot respond through innovations," Schmidt said. Unsurprisingly, the exec doesn't think that either Google or its Android OEMs have done anything wrong, explaining that he believes that Apple's suits are being filed out of jealousy. "We have not done anything wrong and these lawsuits are just inspired by our success," he said.
An International Trade Commission judge last week ruled that HTC is infringing on two Apple patents and, although the decision is still going to be reviewed by a six-person ITC committee, HTC has already said that it plans to appeal the ruling. When asked if Google would be helping HTC pay for its suit against Apple should the Taiwanese-based manufacturer lose, Schmidt said, "We will make sure they don't lose, then." Sounds like these battles may soon be getting even more interesting.
