The iPhone 5 rumor mill is at it again. The latest report comes courtesy of the Wall Street Journal and its "people familiar with the matter," which claim that Apple has begun ordering the components necessary to produce the next iPhone ahead of its launch sometime in the third quarter. According to the site, Apple's new handset will be both thinner and lighter than the iPhone 4 and will feature an 8-megapixel camera and Qualcomm baseband chips. This new thin design may pose a bit of a problem to the iPhone 5, though, as two sources told the WSJ that the device is "complicated and difficult to assemble" and could actually end up pushing shipments back later than Apple would like.
Obviously there aren't a ton of details on the next gen iPhone in this report, although the claim that it'll be both thinner and lighter suggests to some that the device won't be similar to the iPhone 4 like so many other articles have claimed. Like the spec and design info, details on when the iPhone 5 will be released are also still up in the air. The consensus seems to be that the handset will make its debut at Apple's traditionally iPod/media-focused event in September.
