ASUS recently launched the Eee Pad Transformer, an Android tablet that can become a netbook-style device after being placed in its keyboard dock. It doesn't look like ASUS is going to stop with the dockable devices there, though, as a teaser image has been revealed which shows that the firm may be planning to introduce a phone that can dock into a tablet at Computex 2011. As you can see above, the image says "Break the Rules: Pad or Phone? How About Both?" When paired with a set of teaser images from earlier this week, it certainly looks like ASUS is going to be unveiling an Android phone that can be docked into a tablet, similar to how Motorola's Atrix 4G can dock into a laptop. After doing a big of digging, the folks at Pocketnow found that ASUS filed for the trademark to the name "Padfone" just four days ago, suggesting that that could be the name that the company will use for its phone/tablet docking wonder.
The idea of a phone-docking tablet sounds kind of strange at first, but it could be a pretty interesting idea if ASUS can pull it off. Such a device may not be as productive as the Atrix/lapdock combo, but for most people it could be a nice, easy way to charge up your phone and keep it close-by while still being able to browse the Web and do whatever else with their tablet. Luckily, Computex kicks off next Monday, so we won't have to wait long for ASUS to make the phone/tablet combo official. Stay tuned!
