Good news for those of you that love to tinker with your Android phones: HTC just announced that, due to "overwhelming customer feedback," it will no longer be using locked bootloaders on its devices. HTC CEO Peter Chou announced the decision on his company's Facebook page, following a statement from HTC earlier this week saying that it would be reviewing its policy on bootloaders. The full statement from Mr. Chou:
"There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience."
It's not yet clear if the decision will be retroactive and include previous devices, nor do we know how it'll affect upcoming handsets like the EVO 3D and Sensation 4G. Still, this is a huge decision from HTC and is sure to earn it quite a bit of respect from the Android hacking community. Who's excited?!
