Several reports have claimed that the next generation iPhone would feature only minor changes from the design of the iPhone 4, but according to a new report from Digitimes, Apple's new handset may feature a at least one big change from its predecessors. After talking things over with its sources, Digitimes is claiming that the iPhone 5 will sport a "curved cover glass." Those same tipsters say that Apple is so committed to bringing a curved glass design to its next iPhone that it actually purchased 200-300 glass cutting machines to be used by glass makers after those firms were a little hesitant to drop the cash on the machines themselves.
This wouldn't be the first time that Apple used a curved glass design in one of its products (4th generation iPod Nano), or the first time we've seen such a design on a cell phone. Recently, the Nexus S featured a concave display that Samsung said is meant to improve "perceived usability." It's not clear whether the curved glass design that Apple is planning will be more akin to the iPod Nano, Nexus S, or something entirely different, but whichever they decide to go with, it'll be quite a change from previous iPhones. Would any of you be interested in an iPhone that has a curved cover glass?
