There's still no word on exactly when HP will launch the Pre 3 outside of a vague "summer" window, but they took one step toward that release date recently with an appearance in the FCC. One of the most interesting pieces of information revealed in the filing is that the Pre 3 is listed as featuring webOS 2.3, a much newer version of the OS than what's currently running on Pre 2s in the wild (2.1). It's also worth noting that the Pre 3 that was tested by the FCC was of the GSM variety and featured compatibility with the 800MHz and 1900MHz bands, aka AT&T 3G.
I'm sure there are a lot of webOS diehards that are bummed that we still don't know when we can expect the Pre 3 to drop, but it's good to see the device inching closer to release. There haven't been any rumors pointing toward a possible Pre 3 launch date just yet, but the TouchPad, which HP also said will be coming in the summer, has been rumored to be landing in June for some time now, so perhaps we can expect the Pre 3 around the same time? No one outside of HP knows for sure yet, but we'll be sure to let you know when we do.
UPDATE: Speaking of the TouchPad, HP's webOS-powered slate was just spotted in the FCC, as well. There's not really any new info to be found, but it does add credence to those June launch rumors.
