Verizon gave us a lot of interesting figures and statistics when they released their Q1 2011 financial report earlier today, but one of the carrier's executives took it upon himself to reveal a tidbit of info about the next iPhone, too. During a conference call this morning, Verizon CFO Fran Shammo let slip that Apple's next-gen iPhone will be a global device that'll sport both CDMA and GSM radios.
It's worth noting that both Verizon's iPhone 4 and the iPad 2 already feature a CDMA/GSM world chip, but Apple decided to make the VeriPhone CDMA only and offer separate CDMA and GSM models of the new iPad. It wouldn't surprise me to see Apple push out one model of the iPhone 5 that's ready for use on both kinds of networks, though, because I'm sure the company would much rather manufacture one type of iPhone that works anywhere as opposed to two different versions for specific network types. Unfortunately, it seems likely that we'll have to wait until September to find out whether or not Shammo's comment about the iPhone 5 is accurate.
