Last week we saw analyst firm Gartner give its prediction for what the smartphone market will look like when 2015 rolls around, and today the group is back to give us its thoughts on what the tablet market will look like in the future. Apple has kind of been controlling the market with the iPad for a while now, but Gartner believes that that'll change in the coming years, with the iOS market share dropping from 83.9 percent in 2010 to 47.1 percent by 2015. Where will all of its share go? Gobbled up by Android, mostly. Gartner claims that Google's OS will finish 2015 with 38.6 percent of the market, up from the 14.2 percent it had at the end of last year. Finally, QNX (the software on the BlackBerry PlayBook) will finish 2015 with 10 percent market share, says Gartner, while webOS will garner 3 percent of the market, Meego will finish with 1 percent, and "Other" OSes will earn a whopping 0.2 percent of the market by 2015.
Now that we're finally beginning to see more tablets enter the market and go head-to-head with the iPad, it's not much of a surprise that Apple may begin to see its tablet market share shrink. As with Gartner's smartphone estimates, though, it can be tough to predict exactly what will happen in the tablet world in the next few years, especially considering how young it is. Still, it can make for a good discussion, so feel free to leave your predictions down below. Do you agree with Gartner's claims? Do you think Android will have an even higher share of the market by 2015? Let us know!
