Earlier this year, we saw Verizon ditch mail-in rebates for some of its devices, and now it's been revealed that Sprint will soon be enforcing a similar policy change. Beginning on Sunday, March 27th, Sprint will be replacing mail-in rebates with instant rebates "in most channels" on phones and other devices. A Sprint spokesperson has confirmed the change, although they wouldn't say exactly how long it would last.
While most consumers are happy to get any kind of discount on a new phone, mail-in rebates can be a pain because, even if you do remember to mail it in, you have to wait weeks to get your money back. That's why we're fans of instant discounts. It's kind of a bummer that we don't know exactly how long we'll get to enjoy not having to deal with MIRs at Sprint, but we'll be sure to let you know when we hear more.
