The Samsung Gem has led a pretty quiet life so far, leaking a couple of times last year before disappearing for several months. It recently became official, more or less, by appearing on Samsung's website, and today its story is finally nearing an end. As you can see above, the diminutive little Android phone is making its way into Verizon stores, where it'll likely be priced at or below $50 on-contract (I hope) whenever it launches.
As you could probably tell by just looking at photos of the Gem, it's not exactly a handset that us bleeding-edge types would lust over. Still, with an 800MHz core and Android 2.1, it could be a serviceable little device for first-time smartphone buyers. We'll just have to see if Verizon can price it accordingly.
