We're slowly inching closer to March 2nd and the unveiling of the new iPad, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that more rumors about the device are seeing the light of day. According to sources speaking with Engadget, some specs about the tablet that were previously thought to be included aren't going to be making the cut thanks to "engineering issues" that required last minute changes. So exactly what features will the iPad 2 sport? Engadget's sources, which they claim have been "dead right" in the past, say that a new A5 chip and 512MB RAM will be present, as well as a front-facing camera (rear camera is still up in the air) and thinner body. The screen size and resolution will remain the same as the original iPad. That means that the SD slot and higher-res display have gotten the axe. Don't be too disappointed, though, as the tipsters say that iOS 5 could likely make a debut a next week's event, although it probably won't actually be available until this summer.
Most of this speculation fits what we've been hearing lately about the iPad 2, including those case mockups from the other day. The faster processor and increased RAM should help it hang with its Android, BlackBerry, and webOS competitors, and the thinner frame will be nice for those of us that do a lot of one-handed iPadding. Since most of the iPad 2 info has leaked out ahead of March 2nd, it'll be interesting to see what Apple has up its sleeve for iOS 5. I'm hoping for some improved notifications.
