The recently announced HTC ChaCha, with its dedicated Facebook button, may not be available to purchase quite yet, but the name is obviously getting around. The popular website ChaCha.com, which provides text-based answers to those who send questions in, is moving forward with a lawsuit against HTC for trademark infringement. The company owns the trademark for "ChaCha" in the United States as well as Europe, so the upcoming handset is apparently causing the company some issues.
This is one of those cases where HTC just didn't check anything before they named the device. While ChaCha may not be a hugely popular name, it's still popular enough that it wouldn't have taken someone long to find out the company, and their text-based service exist. We'll have to wait and see what happens, but I wouldn't be surprised if ChaCha.com could be assuaged to let HTC keep the phone's name for a little cash on the side.
