Bad news for those of us that pick up our phones from third-party retailers like Wirefly: you'll soon have one less option when it comes to selecting a carrier. We've recently learned that both Wirefly and Let's Talk will stop offering AT&T products and services next month. The reasons for the break-up between Ma Bell and the dealers aren't totally clear, but Let's Talk sent out the following note to its affiliates that gives us a peek into what's going on:
"Effective March 8th, 2011, LetsTalk as well as other web indirect agents [...], will no longer be able to offer AT&T Wireless as a carrier option to our customers. The primary reasons given for this change in AT&T’s business strategy were centered around AT&T cost savings and retrenchment."
There are still a few places to pick up AT&T products outside of the carrier itself, like AmazonWireless, but with both Let's Talk and Wirefly's announcements, it's tough to say exactly how long those other options will be around. We'll keep you updated as more info comes to light. In the mean time, have any of you used third-party retailers like Wirefly in the past?
