LG may be going with 3D in a big way with the Optimus 3D and G-Slate, but not everyone is completely sold on the feature just yet, including Samsung. Jim Powell, the head of product management over at Samsung Mobile UK, thinks that there's just no need for 3D tech in phones just yet, especially because of the effect it can have on a device's thickness. However, if the 3D craze succeeds, Powell says that Samsung would be more than willing to release a 3D-capable phone of their own. The full quote is as follows:
“We just don’t see [3D] is needed yet – good luck to the innovators though, it will be interesting to see if it works, and if it does you’ll see a response from Samsung quickly.”
While I'm going to wait to really pass judgment on LG's 3D products until I can actually, you know, use them, right now I'm not completely sold on the idea of having 3D on my phone or tablet. Outside of a few specific uses, I don't really see the need for the added size and cost that I imagine the 3D tech would bring. What are your thoughts on having 3D in a phone?
