Sprint's been building a pretty large Android lineup, including handsets with 4G capabilities, and today the company came out and said that they'd be doubling down on both types of devices this year. Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, Fared Adib, the vice president of product development and operations at Sprint, said that around 70 percent of the devices that his carrier launches this year will be powered by Android. Not only that, but they want to have the most diverse range of phones around, which the Kyocera Echo is certainly evidence of. Expect many of those devices to sport 4G powers, as Sprint really wants to emphasize its WiMAX network in 2011.
Considering that the HTC EVO 4G and Samsung Epic 4G are still some of the best Android phones around, it's pretty easy to get excited at the thought of Sprint focusing even more on Android and WiMAX this year. It could also be interesting to see what kind of unique phones that they can push out, even if the Kyocera Echo hasn't exactly been well-received so far. With their competitors pushing out phones like the DROID Bionic, Atrix 4G, and Galaxy S 4G, Sprint is definitely going to need their "A" game this year. Will they be able to do it? Stay tuned.
