We've heard in the past that T-Mobile will eventually be moving to LTE, and now it appears that they're about to take one of the first steps toward deploying its next 4G network. According to two sources "familiar with the talks," T-Mobile is in talks to buy spectrum from Clearwire, who we know could use the cash, in a deal that could be completed by the end of March. The auction for the spectrum was set to end last month, but was extended because T-Mo's owner Deutsche Telekom was the only bidder.
T-Mobile is currently going all in with its HSPA+ network, with plans to move to 42Mbps this year, but it's good to see them prepping for the move to LTE to help them compete with Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint.. It should be interesting to see how the deal between T-Mo and Clearwire ends, since T-Mobile isn't in a rush to deploy the new 4G but Clearwire needs to raise some money as soon as it can.
