Yesterday we learned that the Samsung Vibrant would be the first Galaxy S device in the U.S. to get Android 2.2, with the software becoming available to users today. The upgrade isn't going to be a simple over the air installation, though, as it's been revealed that the Vibrant's Froyo update must be installed using Samsung's Mini Kies software, at least initially. The Mini Kies software is currently only available for PC users and can be found right here (direct download link). After installing the update, users will find WiFi calling, an "enhanced camera interface," and tethering.

After the news that the Vibrant would finally be upgraded to Froyo, many of us expected that the update would be coming OTA, like most of them usually do. That's not the case, though, and I'm pretty surprised that Samsung and T-Mobile went this route. After all, not all users have access to a PC, and the process of plugging in your handset and downloading Mini Kies is just a bit more complicated than getting notified of the upgrade and being able to install it OTA. Android 2.2 for a Galaxy S has finally arrived, though, and some users have already reported a successful installation of Froyo on their Vibrant.
