Samsung's Gem has leaked a couple of times in the past, but it appears that Sammy may finally be gearing up to release the Android-powered handset. The Gem has popped up on Samsung's website recently, complete with a spec list for us to obsess over and compare to other handsets. When the Gem finally comes to market, it'll sport a 3.2-inch WQVGA touchscreen, 800MHz processor, 3.2 megapixel camera, 124MB of memory, and Android 2.1. The Gem is a CDMA handset and, although no carrier is mentioned on Samsung's site, we've seen the device leak with Verizon branding more than once before.
The Gem certainly isn't going to blow anyone away with its specs, but with an 800MHz core and decent camera, it seems like a serviceable mid-range Android phone. It's kind of crazy that the Gem is packing Android 2.1, even though 2.3 is the most-current version of the OS, but that's what happens sometimes, I suppose, especially with a device that's not super high-end. I just hope that, when the Gem is launched, it doesn't take as long to get updated as the Galaxy S phones have.
