Over the past year or so, we've seen 3D exploding in popularity in movie theaters and TVs, and more recently videos games have been getting in on the fun with products like Nintendo's new 3DS. According to a new rumor, the mobile industry will be the next to embrace 3D technology thanks to devices from LG. The Korean manufacturer showed off a 4.3-inch glasses-free 3D display at CES earlier this month, and an LG rep recently said in an interview that the tech will be making its way to a mobile device sooner than expected. This remark has caused the rumor mill to kick into overdrive, with many believing that LG is planning to include an 8.9-inch glasses-free 3D display in the upcoming G-Slate. Additionally, the G-Slate is rumored to be feature 3D video capture, a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, and both a USB and HDMI port.
On a separate but still semi-related note, there's another rumor floating around claiming that the Sprint event next month will feature an HTC-made glasses-free 3D handset.
While 3D seems to be taking off when it comes to movies and TVs, I'm not completely sold on using the tech on mobile phones. I just can't really think of any way that having a 3D display would be that useful except when it comes to watching shows. Even then, would it be worth it to have your battery sucked away just to watch a 3D clip on the go? Then again, I'm not a huge proponent of 3D in movies, either, so maybe that's just me. Would any of you be interested in a tablet or phone with a 3D display?
