About a week ago, we learned that Motorola filed for the "XOOM" trademark and we speculated that it could end up being the Stingray's official name when it comes to market. Now that rumor seems even more likely, as the folks over at Droid-Life have been told by their sources that the Stingray tablet will indeed be called "DROID XOOM" when it hits Verizon's shelves. Additionally, the tipsters are reporting that it won't have a 4G radio built in, although it's possible that there will be a USB port to plug an LTE modem into.
We've known that "Stingray" was only the Motorola tablet's codename for some time now, so it's no surprise that it will be called "DROID XOOM" when it comes to market. I'm not quite sure how I feel about the name, but it is nice and short, unlike some other upcoming devices. The only issue I can envision is that some people may be a little confused by the name "XOOM." The lack of 4G, if it's true, is kind of disappointing, but at least we'll have Honeycomb to help us get over the fact that we're stuck on 3G speeds, right?
